Commons Process
Hand in Contribution for Commentary
About this space
The NFDI4Objects Commons represent proposals, recommendations, and standards from our community and document, for example, best practices, technical descriptions, and recommendations for service development. In this way, they provide continuously updated access to quality-assured resources from our community. They are developed within the community clusters, temporary working groups, projects such as the TRAILs, and the NFDI4Objects task areas, as well as in working groups.
NFDI4Objects Commons undergo a transparent, participatory quality assurance process. Interested parties can publicly discuss and comment on the contributions submitted here before consolidated versions are adopted as recommendations by the NFDI4Objects General Assembly. In this way, the community’s expertise is directly incorporated into the development of these deliverables.
Commons contributions can be publicly discussed at any time by anyone interested. After a paper is submitted, an official four-week comment period begins, which can be extended at the authors’ request. Subsequently, the authors of the respective paper address the comments from the community and incorporate them into the paper. This results in a consolidated paper that reflects the outcome of an open process rather than the opinion of a single individual. In the next step, the consolidated report from the NFDI4Objects General Assembly will be submitted for recommendation.
In summary, Commons contributions go through the following quality assurance steps:
submitted contribution (proposal from the community)
commented contribution (with comments from the community)
consolidated contribution (revised based on the comments)
recommended contribution (approved by the NFDI4Objects General Assembly)
To participate in this process, follow our step-by-step guide on how to submit or comment on a post.

What happens next?
a. The comment period lasts four weeks and can be extended as needed. Afterward, the relevant posts will be marked in color as “commented on.” However, they will remain publicly visible and open to further comments.
b. Once this phase is complete, you will revise your submission based on the comments and submit it in its consolidated form for a vote at the NFDI4Objects General Assembly.
Would you like to comment on a post?
